We were created to worship!
We were created to worship—God purposely created us this way. And whether we know it or not, we are always worshipping something. Whether it’s our phones, our jobs, or our lifestyles, our hearts are tuned into something.
But when we dedicate our lives to Christ, He calls us to turn our hearts toward heavenly things. Worship through song is a catalyst for change. It redirects our attention from the things of this world to the things of God and syncs our hearts with God’s heart.
You may recognize worship as the time in the service when the band gets up to play and everyone sings a couple songs. This is an important expression of worship, but songs are not the extent of what it means to worship.
Scripture shows us that we don’t stop worshipping when the music stops. Worship is the lifeblood of the believer. The word worship means to ascribe value to something (worth + ship) and to love and honor it. When you value something, you are mindful of it.
When we grow in our love for Jesus, we realize that every moment of our lives is worship.
The Apostle Paul reminds us to present our bodies daily “as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship” (Romans 12:1, ESV). When we live lives that reflect the goodness of God, we have reason to sing.
The word “worship” means to ascribe value to something (worth + ship) and to love and honor it.
Your Next Steps
When you’re spending time with God, take the opportunity to play a worship song. Listen to the words. Sing along. You don’t have to be a great singer or musician. Focus on hearing God’s heart toward you and let your heart connect to His. ❤️
Scripture says that God dwells in the praises of His people. Just remember that worship is more than just the songs we sing. It’s about thanking Him for the new life He gives us.
